Aryavir Sehwag Scores 173, but Chandigarh Beat Delhi
Aryavir Sehwag struck 173 off 143 balls, including 19 fours and eight sixes, but Rupesh Yadav’s explosive 167 helped Chandigarh Under-19 beat Delhi by five wickets in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy.

Aryavir Sehwag, son of former India opener Virender Sehwag, produced a commanding innings in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy on Friday, scoring 173 off 143 balls against Chandigarh Under-19. However, his effort was not enough to prevent Delhi Under-19 from suffering a five-wicket defeat at the ACA Sports Complex.
Batting first in the 50-over match, Delhi posted 289-6, with Aryavir leading from the front as captain. The 18-year-old right-hander struck 19 fours and eight sixes, scoring 124 of his 173 runs through boundaries. He fell in the 46th over, narrowly missing the chance to reach a double century.
Aryavir gave Delhi a strong start, sharing an opening stand of 98 with Arnav Bugga, who scored 47 off 39 balls. Although wickets fell at regular intervals after the opening partnership, Aryavir continued to score freely at the other end.
Abhiraj Gagan Singh contributed 18, while Shantanu Yadav remained unbeaten on 27. Apart from Bugga, they were the only Delhi batters to reach double figures, as the team failed to push its total beyond 300 despite Aryavir’s outstanding knock.
The innings marked a breakthrough for Aryavir in the tournament after scores of 54, 46 and 32 in his previous three matches. He also represented India Under-19 in a three-match one-day series against Australia Under-19 last month, scoring 109 runs across three innings at a strike rate of 103.81.
Delhi had begun their campaign with an impressive chase of 339 against Gujarat. However, defeats against Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka, followed by a rain-abandoned match against Jharkhand, had put them under pressure.
Their struggles continued against Chandigarh, despite Aryavir’s dominant performance.
Chasing 290, Chandigarh were powered by opener Rupesh Yadav, who smashed 167 off 125 balls, including 23 fours and five sixes. His innings helped Chandigarh reach the target with 51 balls to spare, sealing a five-wicket victory and leaving Delhi with little to show for their captain’s remarkable effort.
