Myanmar Land Depression: No. 3 Warning Signal at Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar
A land depression over Myanmar is affecting the Bay of Bengal, prompting a No. 3 local warning signal at Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar ports, Bangladesh’s weather office says.
DHAKA, Sept. 29 — A deep depression that formed near the northern Andaman Sea and Myanmar weakened after crossing the coast and was moving over land as a depression in the east-central and northeast Bay of Bengal on Tuesday morning, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said.
The system is expected to move north-northwest and gradually lose strength, the weather agency said.
Despite its weakening, gusty winds may affect Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar ports and coastal areas, prompting the Meteorological Department to hoist local warning signal No. 3 at the two seaports.
Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northeast Bay of Bengal have been advised to remain close to the coast and avoid venturing into the deep sea.
Assistant Meteorologist Kazi Zebunnesa said winds of 45-60 kilometers per hour from the south-southeast could affect Noakhali, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar. River ports in those areas have been asked to display warning signal No. 1.
The forecast calls for gusty winds in many parts of Chattogram division and in one or two areas of Sylhet division, along with light to moderate rain.
Some parts of Chattogram division could also receive moderate to heavy rainfall, while day and night temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged.
