Popular Bangladeshi film stars Moushumi and Omar Sani have remained one of the country’s most talked-about celebrity couples for more than three decades. Despite repeated rumors about marital problems and divorce, the couple has continued their life together.

Omar Sani recently spoke about their marriage, the rumors surrounding their relationship, and what has kept their bond strong. He said both he and Moushumi are human and, like anyone else, can make mistakes.

“I am human, so I can make mistakes. Moushumi is human too, and she can make mistakes,” Sani said. “The problem arises when there is excessive writing and discussion about these issues.”

Addressing reports about their alleged separation, Sani said the couple does not allow such speculation to dominate their personal lives.

Despite the rumors and criticism, Sani made his feelings for Moushumi clear.

“At this age, I would still say, ‘Fardeen and Faiza’s mother, I love you,’” he said, referring to their children.

Trust and sacrifice

Sani said mutual trust and sacrifice are essential to maintaining a successful marriage.

“A husband and wife’s relationship is about trusting each other and making sacrifices,” he said, adding that those qualities have remained part of their relationship.

Asked what still attracts him to Moushumi after so many years, Sani highlighted her caring nature and determination.

He said Moushumi has the ability to keep many things to herself, while he tends to be less patient. He considers their differences part of what makes their relationship work.

Sani also spoke about Moushumi’s role as the mother of their children, saying that remains an important part of her identity in his eyes.

How Moushumi and Omar Sani met

The couple’s relationship began in the early 1990s. They first met at the mahurat ceremony of the film Keyamat Theke Keyamat.

Later, director Sheikh Nazrul Islam took Sani to Moushumi’s home in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, with a film proposal. That was when they first spoke. Moushumi, however, could not accept the project because of her commitments to another film.

Their professional relationship developed after they were cast together in Dola in 1993, following the success of Keyamat Theke Keyamat.

The two reportedly had a disagreement during the shooting of Dola in Sylhet. Their initial distance, however, gradually turned into affection.

Sani was drawn to Moushumi’s personality, family environment and behavior, eventually leading the two actors into a relationship.

Secret marriage in 1995

Moushumi and Omar Sani married secretly on March 4, 1995, in the presence of close family members and two film directors who were close to them.

About a year and a half later, on Aug. 2, they held a reception to celebrate their marriage.

More than 30 years later, the couple continues to attract public attention. Although rumors, disagreements and speculation about their relationship have surfaced at various times, Moushumi and Omar Sani remain together.
