DHAKA, Bangladesh — Veteran Bangladeshi actor and road safety activist Elias Kanchan is showing signs of improvement while receiving treatment for a brain tumor in London, according to Liton Ershad, secretary-general of the central committee of Nirapad Sarak Chai (NISCHA), a road safety advocacy organization.

Speaking to News24buzz Online on Sunday, Ershad said Kanchan’s condition had improved, and he no longer required chemotherapy at this stage. The actor is currently being treated with medication, he added.

Kanchan has also made progress in his speech and mobility, Ershad said. Although immunotherapy had been planned, his treatment is now continuing with medication.

Ershad asked the public to pray for the actor’s full recovery.

Kanchan returned to Bangladesh in August after nearly 10 months of treatment in London. He stayed in the country for about a week before returning to the British capital for further medical care.

On Oct. 22, in a statement marking National Road Safety Day in Bangladesh, Kanchan said he remained under medical care in London. Despite being away from home, he said his thoughts remained with the people of Bangladesh and the road safety movement he founded.

The actor also expressed gratitude to those who had contacted him, offered support and prayed for his recovery during his illness.

Kanchan, widely known for his role in the hit Bangladeshi film Beder Meye Josna, is also recognized for his longstanding efforts to raise awareness about road safety in Bangladesh.
