Jamaat Dhaka City Election Candidates: Jamaat Names Potential Candidates for Dhaka North and South City Elections
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has hinted at the names of possible mayoral candidates for the Dhaka North and South City Corporation elections. He said that although the nominations for the two cities have been organizationally finalized, an official announcement has not been made yet.
DHAKA, Sept. 15: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has finalized its candidates internally for the upcoming Dhaka North and Dhaka South city corporation elections, but the party has yet to make an official announcement, its Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar said Monday.
Speaking to reporters at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) auditorium in Kakrail after attending a conference, Parwar said the party was organizationally prepared to contest local government elections across the country.
He said the process of selecting candidates for union, upazila, district, and city corporation elections was nearing completion. In several areas, the party had already announced candidates internally, he said.
Regarding the two Dhaka city corporations, Parwar confirmed that Jamaat would participate in the elections and said candidates had already been selected at the organizational level.
“Candidates have been nominated organizationally, but they have not been officially announced yet. They will be announced at the appropriate time,” he said.
Parwar’s remarks came amid reports that Selim Uddin is likely to be Jamaat’s candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation and Sadek Kayem for Dhaka South City Corporation.
Election date yet to be announced
The Election Commission has not yet announced the schedule or voting date for the Dhaka North and South City Corporation elections. Political parties, however, have already begun preparing candidates ahead of the polls.
The National Citizen Party (NCP) on Sunday announced Nasiruddin Patwary as its mayoral candidate for Dhaka South and Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan for Dhaka North.
The selection of potential candidates by major political parties has intensified preparations for the two Dhaka city elections, although the final electoral schedule is yet to be announced by the Election Commission.
Parwar made the remarks after attending a Seerat-un-Nabi conference organized by the Dhaka South unit of the National Doctors Forum, where he was the chief guest.
