Decomposed bodies of two adults, newborn recovered from locked room in Ashulia
Police suspect murder after foul smell leads residents to room in Jamgora; identities of victims remain unknown
ASHULIA, Bangladesh — Police recovered the decomposed bodies of an unidentified man and woman, along with a newborn, from a locked room in Ashulia early today, prompting an investigation into a suspected murder.
The bodies were recovered around 2:30 a.m. from a room on the second floor of a four-story building in Madhya Jamgora, said Mohammad Tariqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station.
According to the police official, the man and woman had rented the room a few days earlier, introducing themselves as husband and wife. The woman was nearly five months pregnant, he said.
Local residents alerted police late last night after noticing a foul smell coming from the locked room.
“After reaching the scene, we found three decomposed bodies inside the room,” the officer said, adding that police were working to identify the two adults.
The newborn may have been delivered after the woman died, as her body had already begun decomposing, the officer said.
A forensic team from the Criminal Investigation Department visited the scene and collected evidence.
Police initially suspect the deaths may have resulted from murder, Islam said. He added that further details would be disclosed as the investigation progresses.
