Businessman Hasibur Rahman Arrested in Model Ridhika Ridhi Suicide Incitement Case
Police have arrested a businessman in connection with a case filed over the alleged incitement of model and actress Ridhika Ridhi to die by suicide. The accused, identified as Hasibur Rahman, was arrested from the Bashundhara residential area in Dhaka on Saturday night, police said.
The arrest came hours after Ridhika Ridhi’s body was recovered from a residence in the same area, following an incident that police initially suspected to be a case of suicide.
Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Vatara Police Station, confirmed the arrest. “One person has been arrested in the case filed over incitement to suicide,” he told Prothom Alo.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and that the circumstances surrounding the actress’s death are being examined based on information provided by her family and other available evidence.
Body Recovered From Bashundhara Residence
According to police, Ridhika Ridhi’s body was recovered from a residence in the Bashundhara residential area at around 6:00am on Saturday.
Police officers who arrived at the scene found her hanging from a ceiling fan. She was subsequently taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
Following the discovery, police began an initial investigation into the circumstances of her death. At that stage, law enforcement officials suspected that she had died by suicide.
The incident later took a legal turn after Ridhi’s family raised allegations that she had been encouraged or provoked to take her own life.
Family Files Case Over Alleged Incitement
Police said information provided by Ridhika Ridhi’s family indicated that she had been involved in a romantic relationship with a man.
According to the family’s account, Ridhi had an argument with the man during a video call in the early hours of Saturday. The dispute allegedly continued while the two were communicating through the call.
Police said that, at one point during the video call, Ridhi died by suicide.
Following her death, Ridhi’s mother filed a case alleging that her daughter had been incited to die by suicide. The complaint prompted police to investigate the circumstances of the incident and the alleged role of the person involved in the dispute.
The arrest of Hasibur Rahman is the first reported arrest in the case.
