Bangladesh Test ranking: Bangladesh Climb to Record Sixth in ICC Test Rankings

DHAKA — Bangladesh climbed three places to a record sixth in the ICC Test rankings despite suffering a heavy defeat to Australia in the second Test in Mackay on Sunday.
The Tigers now have 78 rating points, moving ahead of Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies and Zimbabwe. Australia remains at the top with 126 points, followed by South Africa with 119, New Zealand with 106, India with 104 and England with 99.
Bangladesh’s previous best Test ranking was seventh, achieved in May after they completed a 2-0 home series victory over Pakistan.
Bangladesh reach record Test ranking
The latest rise follows Bangladesh’s 1-1 draw on their tour of Australia. Their historic nine-wicket victory in the first Test in Darwin played a key role in improving their ranking.
The series ended on a disappointing note, however, as Australia defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 51 runs in Mackay. The hosts wrapped up the match inside two days.
“It’s good news, definitely good news. It would have felt even better if we could have played good cricket in this Test match. But climbing to No. 6 for the first time in Test cricket is a massive achievement,” Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said after Sunday’s match.
Bangladesh’s rise has taken them past Sri Lanka, who have 76 points, Pakistan with 75, West Indies with 74 and Zimbabwe with 17.
Australia led the Test rankings with 126 points from 27 matches, while South Africa is second on 119. New Zealand occupies third place with 106, followed by India and England.
Bangladesh remain fourth in WTC standings
Bangladesh have also maintained a strong position in the World Test Championship 2025-27 standings despite the loss in Mackay.
The Tigers are fourth with 40 points and a points percentage of 55.56. Australia led the table with 80%, followed by South Africa on 75% and New Zealand on 72.22%.
Bangladesh have played six WTC matches in the current cycle, winning three, losing two and drawing one. The defeat to Australia was their first loss after three consecutive victories.
India is fifth with a points percentage of 53.33, leaving Bangladesh narrowly ahead of the former champions in the standings.
South Africa series next
Bangladesh’s next WTC assignment will be a two-Test series in South Africa. The Tigers will aim to build on their record Test ranking and strengthen their position among the leading contenders in the current championship cycle.
