NFL tight finish Foster Moreau posted on Twitter on Wednesday he was once recognized with Hodgkin’s lymphoma right through a bodily with the New Orleans Saints.
“Through somewhat of a miraculous process, this Free Agency period has been life changing for me,” Moreau wrote. “During a routine physical conducted by the Saints medical team down in New Orleans, I’ve come to learn that I have Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and will be stepping away from football at this time to fight a new opponent: Cancer. I am grateful for the support and thankful for the people who have stood firm with me. There hasn’t been a single step I’ve taken without hundreds of people lighting the path before me and I will continue to seek their guidance.”
The 25-year-old Moreau added that he plans to eventually return to the NFL “and get back to doing what I love”.
Moreau is a free agent who played the last four seasons for the Raiders. The team took him in the fourth round of the 2019 draft out of LSU. Last season, he set career highs with 33 catches for 420 yards. Moreau also caught two touchdown passes. He had visits with the Saints and Cincinnati Bengals in recent weeks as the free agency period started.
In a Tweet posted by the Raidersthe team showed its support for Moreau: “Your Raider family is with you, Foster.”
Former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr also reached out on Twitter.
“Love you and we are here for you… praying for you brother!” Carr wrote,
He started 14 games last season and 25 over the last two years. Moreau has 91 career receptions for 1,107 yards and 12 TDs.
Hodgkin’s lymphoma affects the body’s immune system. According to the Mayo Clinic, “advances in diagnosis and treatment of Hodgkin’s lymphoma have helped give people with this disease the chance for a full recovery. The prognosis continues to improve for people with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
