Nationwide three-month dengue prevention drive to begin Sept. 12
A three-month nationwide cleanliness and public awareness campaign to prevent dengue will begin Sept. 12, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman scheduled to inaugurate the program.
The prime minister announced the initiative Tuesday at a meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat to review the dengue situation and measures to control the disease.
Rahman said the next three months are critical for dengue prevention and called for active public participation alongside government efforts.
He stressed that preventing dengue’s should not depend solely on government agencies or mosquito-control activities. Keeping homes and surroundings clean and raising public awareness are equally important, he said.
Under the campaign, city corporations will coordinate activities in metropolitan areas, while deputy commissioners will oversee programs at the district level. Upazila nirbahi officers will coordinate activities at the upazila level.
Volunteers from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, Bangladesh National Cadet Corps, Rover Scouts and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, along with school and college students, will participate.
Every Saturday, volunteers will visit homes and establishments to conduct cleanliness drives, identify potential Aedes mosquito breeding sites and encourage residents to maintain clean surroundings.
Rahman also instructed authorities to intensify dengue awareness campaigns through television and social media.
He urged people to keep homes, educational institutions, government and private establishments, and surrounding areas clean, stressing that decisions taken at the meeting must be implemented at the grassroots level.
