Amid the continuing ‘verified’ fiasco, Twitter proprietor, Elon Musk has introduced that verified accounts will likely be prioritized.
“Verified accounts are now prioritized,” wrote Musk in a tweet.
Last month, Musk mentioned that verified customers could be prioritized within the timeline, particularly the algorithm-run “For You” feed. Moreover, those verified customers can even get precedence within the replies.
“In the coming weeks, Twitter will prioritize replies by: 1. People you follow 2. Verified accounts 3. Unverified accounts.” tweeted Musk.
In some other tweet, Musk mentioned, “Starting April 15th, only verified accounts will be eligible to be in for you recommendations.”
While we are past April 15th, you can expect to see tweets from verified users on your For You feed. Also, in the replies, while verified users will get priority over the users you do not follow, the followed users still remain the priority.
Earlier this month, Musk had said that all the legacy users would lose their verified checkmarks, which did not happen on time. Although on 4/20, the blue checkmarks of all the legacy verified users were gone, only to return later for the ‘notable’ users a few days later.
Elon himself paid for some celebrities, including Lebraon James, Stephen King, and William Shatner. And after an outburst from several celebrities, Musk apparently gave users with more than 1 million followers a free subscription to Twitter Blueincluding some dead ones.
There have been speculations about Twitter giving preferential treatment to high-profile users, including Elon Musk, by boosting their tweets. Some hints of this differentiation can be seen in Twitter’s algorithm, as observed by researcher Jane Manchun Wong, who noted that tweets from Elon Musk and other “energy customers,” in addition to tweets from Republicans and Democrats, have been categorized otherwise.
During a Spaces consultation, a Twitter engineer discussed that the labels delivered to mild by means of Jane Manchun Wong have been used just for metrics.
