Introducing Bard

Google Search vs. Microsoft Binge
Google plans to combine external feedback with its own internal testing “to verify Bard’s responses meet a prime bar for high quality, protection and groundedness in real-world data.” The company’s testing phase will help it to improve Bard’s quality and speed.
The company has already worked on multiple AI models, such as BERT – one of Google’s first Transformer models that understood the intricacies of human language. Two years ago, it introduced MUM, which is 1,000 times more powerful than BERT and has next-level and multi-lingual understanding of information.
Google has already showcased its newest AI technologies, including LaMDA, PaLM, Imagen and MusicLM. Google says it is working to bring these latest AI advancements into its products, starting with Search. Microsoft is also reported to be working on integrating ChatGPT’s AI capabilities into Bing.
With AI, comes great responsibility
Pichai also said that AI experiences must be brought to the real world “in a daring and accountable method” — something the company reportedly discussed in an all-hands meeting. In that meeting, Pichai and Jeff Deanhead of Google’s AI division, reportedly said that AI chatbots have problems like bias and factuality which makes them unsuited to replace web search. “That’s why we’re committed to developing AI responsibly: In 2018, Google was one of the first companies to publish a set of AI Principles. We continue to provide education and resources for our researchers, partner with governments and external organizations to develop standards and best practices, and work with communities and experts to make AI safe and useful,” Pichai noted in the latest blog post.
