A Twitter person posted “no following tab on threads? Uninstalling?”. The tweet drew reactions from none other than two bigwigs — Elon Musk and former Twitter CEO Jack Dorseywho ended up taking a dig at Meta and Threads.
Dorsey replied, “Not surprising they’ve never given people the choice to remove the algorithm. look at Instagram, Reply to Dorsey, Musk chimed in and tweeted “A closed supply, algorithm-only machine signifies that manipulation of what knowledge folks see is largely undetectable.”
What Meta has to say about it
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, posted a reply on Threads with a screenshot of the above conversation. “If anyone was asking, both Instagram and Facebook have chronological feeds options, so yes, we’re going to bring one to Threads too,” he said. Currently, Threads doesn’t have a chronological feed.
Instagram and Facebook both give users the option to see a chronological feed as well. So Dorsey’s point is rather incorrect here. Interestingly, BlueSky, a Dorsey-backed Twitter alternative has been around for a while but remains an invite-only platform as of now.
Threads has gotten off to a flying start as more than 50 million people have signed up. There have been close to 100 million posts as well. Clearly, the app has gained traction in just 48 hours of launch. Mosseri and co. are quite aware of it. “We couldn’t be happier with all the excitement about this app, so thank you thank you, but this is a race to the starting line if there ever was one. The real test is not if we can build up a lot of hype, but if you all find enough value in the app to keep using it over time,” he mentioned in a thread.
