Conine hit a two-run home run, and the Marlins scored four runs in the fourth inning to secure a 9-2 victory over the White Sox.
**MIAMI** – Griffin Conine powered the Marlins to a 9-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night with a two-run homer in the eighth.
After struggling through the first three innings without a hit, Miami finally found their stride in the fourth. Xavier Edwards kicked things off with a single against starter Erick Fedde (0-1). Agustín Ramírez followed suit with a double, and Liam Hicks then delivered a strong hit down the first baseline to bring them both home, solidifying his status as the MLB leader with eight RBI this season.
The game took a turn when center fielder Luisangel Acuña committed a pair of errors in quick succession on throws to home plate. The first occurred on Owen Caissie’s single, which allowed Hicks to score, followed by another mishap on Heriberto Hernández’s single, giving Miami a 4-2 edge.
Fedde concluded his outing by throwing 80 pitches over five innings, notching four strikeouts while allowing three runs and issuing one walk.
In a strategic play, Graham Pauley laid down a bunt with Hernández on third base. Relief pitcher Bryan Hudson’s throw went wide, allowing the Marlins to extend their lead to five runs. Conine and Hicks later added runs with sacrifice flies in the seventh and eighth innings.
On the other side, Munetaka Murakami connected for a single, driving in Edgar Quero, while Andrew Benintendi hit a line drive to right field that brought Acuña home, putting the White Sox on the board 2-0 in the second inning.
Marlins relief pitcher Anthony Bender (1-0) threw 1 2/3 innings of shutout ball, recording one strikeout and one walk. Starter Janson Junk held the White Sox to two runs and five hits, accompanied by five strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings.
