The Electricity Amendment Bill, 2022 goals to advertise pageant within the electrical energy distribution sector via giving customers a call amongst a number of provider suppliers. “We are hopeful that we will be able to get the Electricity Amendment Bill 2022 passed in the winter session of Parliament (likely in November-December 2022),” Singh informed PTI.
During this, he made it transparent that no provision has been made within the Electricity Amendment Bill 2022 to prevent the subsidy of any magnificence of customers.
He mentioned, “The Electricity Act, 2003 had made provision for having multiple distribution corporations (discoms) in a space. However, different discoms must provide electrical energy via their very own community. Now we have now made provision for sharing the distribution community. Is.”
He said that the distribution companies did not come under the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003 as they had to set up their own distribution network.
The minister said the new provision in the Act will remove public and private monopoly in the power distribution sector and customers will have the option to choose from multiple service providers in a region.
He also suggested that the quality of services would improve due to competition in the power distribution sector.
Singh said that a provision has also been made in the Electricity Amendment Bill to strengthen the state electricity regulators and make them more accountable.
