First Indian send arrives at Mongla sea port to ship items to Northeast states

Dhaka, Aug 8 (PTI) The first Indian send with shipment arrived at Bangladesh’s south-west Mongla sea port on Monday. Under the bilateral settlement, this items might be transported through street to the Northeast area of India.

Mongla port officers mentioned MV Rishad Rehan arrived right here from Kolkata port on a tribulation run. The send has come beneath ‘transshipment’ beneath a bilateral settlement signed 4 years in the past. Under this, Bangladesh’s primary Northeast Chittagong sea port and Mongla port are for use for bringing items from India and in different places.

Rear Admiral Mohamed Musa, Chairman, Mongla Port Authority advised journalists, “MV Rishad Rehan is the first Indian ship that has reached our port with cargo. These goods are meant to be transported by road in the North-East region of India.

There were 16,380 tonnes of iron pipes and 8.5 tonnes of ‘prefoam’ on the ship. It was received by officials of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.

Earlier, last month at Chittagong port where the load of Indian goods had arrived. Which was later transported to Tripura and Assam in India.

Bangladesh officials said customs officials and the country’s security agencies were tasked with escorting the containers safely to the Indian border.

The two countries signed an initial ‘transshipment’ agreement in 2015. Following which a detailed agreement was reached in 2018 and Bangladesh and Indian authorities subsequently prepared a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for its implementation.
