Asif Akbar car shooting: Asif Akbar Says Shooter May Have Known His Daily Schedule

DHAKA, Bangladesh — Police are investigating a shooting incident involving the personal car of popular Bangladeshi singer Asif Akbar in the capital’s Moghbazar area. The singer believes the person or people responsible may have been familiar with his daily routine, although he said he had no specific suspects.
The incident occurred early Saturday, October 24, when a gunman allegedly fired at Akbar’s parked vehicle outside Bishal Center in Moghbazar, according to an internal police report cited in local accounts.
The report said an unidentified individual arrived in a CNG-powered autorickshaw at around 4:45 a.m. and opened fire at the vehicle. Police from Hatirjheel Police Station went to the scene after receiving information about the incident. A bullet cartridge was later recovered from inside the car after its rear window was opened.
Akbar said he was inside his office when the shooting took place. While reviewing security camera footage, he noticed a person who appeared to resemble him walking nearby. He speculated that the shooter might have mistaken that individual for him but acknowledged that he could not confirm what happened.
The singer said he generally arrives at his office between 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and returns home around the time of Fajr prayers. He believes the attacker may have known this schedule.
Akbar added that he had remained at the office longer than usual because he was talking to his son. He suggested that the timing may have prevented him from being near the vehicle when the shots were fired.
Police officials subsequently visited Akbar’s residence and spoke with him about the incident. The singer said he was doing well and had no clear information about who might be behind the shooting.
The incident has also raised concerns among members of Bangladesh’s entertainment industry. Actor Omar Sani described the shooting as an “ominous sign” and expressed concern about Akbar’s safety.
Authorities have yet to identify the shooter or establish a motive. The investigation is ongoing.
