Jamaat Chief Shafiqur Rahman Heads to Turkey for Istanbul Bangladesh Studies Summit

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman left Dhaka for Turkey on Wednesday morning to attend an international conference on Bangladesh studies, the party said.
According to a post on the party’s verified Facebook page, Shafiqur Rahman will deliver the keynote address as the chief guest at the Second International Conference on Bangladesh Studies at Istanbul University.
The conference is jointly organized by Istanbul University and the Centre for Policy and Social Research (CPSR), according to the post.
The theme of the conference is “Multidimensional Perspectives on the Reforms of Bangladesh 2.0 and New Horizons of Turkey-Bangladesh Cooperation.”
Academics, policymakers, diplomats, researchers and representatives of various organizations from Bangladesh, Turkey and other countries are expected to attend the conference, the party said.
After the conference, Shafiqur Rahman will travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, according to the party. He is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on the morning of Oct. 11.
Jamaat Secretary General and former lawmaker Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General and Central Publicity and Media Secretary Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer, and Central Executive Council member Mohammad Mobarak Hossain were among those present at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to see him off, the party said.
The party did not provide further details about Shafiqur Rahman’s itinerary in Turkey or the specific date of his address at the conference.
